Ed Speleers beat out 180,000 other actors to win the title role in Eragon, a wicked fantasy caper about a boy and his dragon. We met him to talk about the movie and basically see if he has a girlfriend. Bad news ladies.
Hey Ed how did you get the role in Eragon?
I was playing Hamlet at school when I heard about the audition. I went along, met the director, read through the script and found out I git the part about 10 days later.
Are people you went to school with coming out of the woodwoek now that you're famous?
On the red carpet before the Eragon premiere I bumped into this guy who I went to school with and he asked me whether I remembered him or not. I was like "Yeah, I remember you very well. You used to bully me".
Yeah. I was bullied in my last year of prep school. Everything had been going smoothly until I was about 13. Then I messed up one day and ended up getting pushed out. It wasn't serious, it was just a pain.
We heard you have a star tattoed on your hand.
I do. Each point represents one of my best friends.
That's so cute! Do you have anymore?
I don't, but I'm planning some. I'm going to New Zealand soon so I'm planning on getting a proper Mauri one.
What do you do when you're not making blockbuster movies?
I listen to a lot of music, I watch movies and I do really boring things like take my dogs for a walk.
How many dogs do you have?
Five. They're split between my mum and my dads house. I brought my German Shepherd to work while on Eragon with me for eight weeks.
So.. do you have a girlfriend?
I do, her name is Amy, I met her at school about five years ago . We went out for a while but she broke up with me. Now because I'm an actor in a movie she wanted to go out with me again! [Laughs]
That's suspicious! Do you get lots of attention from the ladies when you're out?
I always get attention! No, I'm only kidding. I don't notice any special attention. I have other friends who get more.
